overlanding

A big push is happening
As the Pandemic is raging -
Or closing - depends on
Who you ask.

 The National Parks are experiencing
Record numbers right now!
This summer saw some of the
Biggest numbers of visitors ever!

But- not all of us can hike through.
A “through trail” (pronounced “threw”)
Is where you start at one end
and hike through to the other end.
Think Appalachian Trail (2185 miles)
Pacific Creat Trail (2663 miles)
John Muir Trail (210 miles)
Etc.

This new trend is Car Camping.
Overlanding.
An entire industry is cropping up
Catering to the Car Camping Craze.
My car costs as much as a house did
A few decades ago. So I see the appeal.

This is an awning that attaches to the roof.

The Jackery is the #1 go to
Power source.
With a powerful price tag.

Car camping can be done on the cheap.
But to bring the comfort of home
With you on the road…
Is definitely a First World Problem.

Thule roof luggage system

Port a potty and shower stall
It even comes with a 3 liter water heater!
Plugs in to your car cig lighter.

Camp stove

The indestructible Yeti

The SUV buildout.
You tube has literally
Thousands of tutorials
On how to camp - or even live
In your SUV.

Back tent -
Everything found on Amazon.

Room for storage underneath.
Memory Foam Mattress.

Cool USB lights.
Car camping is not just for
Wayward Lesbians anymore!
Lol. Humor. Lol.

Useful trivia.
The JMT is a relatively short hike.
Like 210 miles.
But it crosses the High Sierra
So the elevation is over 14000 feet.
Healthy young folks can log
20 miles a day. Depending.
Some people take a month to hike it.

The is John Muir.
Scottish American Naturalist
Who was the first President
Of the Sierra Club

There are stops along the way.
Little towns and villages along the way
ThT have stores and mail and showers.
But you’re mostly on your own.
You don’t see a lot of 60+ year old women
Suddenly taking on hiking trails.
Especially Fatties with a broken knee.
I’ve often said that I had my life to do over,
I would be on the trails every year.

Although we did our fair share
Of hiking aka road marching
And camping aka bivouac!

Definitely good to be in shape
And at an ideal weight.
This won’t happen on the trail.
It has to already be in place.
Even if it’s just a seedling thought!
