trigger happy

Avast there, ye Scurvy Dog Pinata!
Yep - the candy is already out!
Gotta get ready

Candy is dandy - Liquor is quicker -
I would mix the two with RedBull!

I'm just kidding, of course!
Aye - there'll be no grog for me, matey!

Temptation is everywhere -
a slippery slope of memories and mnemonics...
I am re-learning what these triggers mean,
why I have them,
and what to do about it NOW!
(Which is the only thing that really counts)
"What Cha Gonna Do About It?"
................................................

This is Miss J. She's a REAL "tree-hugger!"
Even her coffee mug says "tree hugger!"
She just about fits the whole picture.
From her hair to her Birkenstocks!

Her wholesome, organic, clean-eating food choices
are never an excuse for ever-eating.
(Even Dr Atkins said LoCarb is not an excuse for gorging yourself!)

Which is sorta like an excuse for not losing weight.
Not finding joy. Not being loved. Not loving.
It's never about the food - I'm convinced by now.
..............................................................
Maybe its about the reasons behind why being overweight "works."
Or why it did.
I imagine myself to be insulated behind a burka of adiposity.
Skin, and stories, and layers of clothes that no longer fit.
And I not only keep them, I worship them.

And ruminate over them.
OK. Time to work - clean something....
do something..... fix something.....
Not just as a way to interrupt the triggers,
But it's win-win....
My apartment is coming right along!

It's good my job lets me have so much time off....
Makes up for the crazy days and weeks of non-stop work.
It goes like that in Hospice... Nurses call it
"Feast or Famine" which is pretty accurate.

Yo Ho -  International "Talk Like A Pirate Day" (link)
is fast approaching! Now that's something to partake of.
Or is it "in?"  Aye be gar!
'Tis a non-candy/food (pseudo) holiday at any rate.
September 19th. A Sunday this year.

sweating (to the) oldies

Didn't Do Squat
(Thrusts)

And a few new dance steps for cleaning:

Where every dance is a "Belly Dance" (of sorts!)

House Cleaning can be a "moving" and aerobic experience!
Bending, reaching, lifting....
Stair climbing, knee-kneeling,
(and don't forget getting back up)

"Good Will Hunting" to drop stuff off.....

A fair haul on today's episode of
"The Trashiest Catch"
Earned me a "10" in Reverse Dumpster Diving!

My "reward" is SF ginger ale w/ sf margarita mix w/ lime ...
(No alcohol for me, please)
And grilled chicken breast on an actual plate...
(Every dish in the place was dirty! Tsk, tsk!)

The SF margarita mix is good as a marinade, as well.
This chicken was marinated w/ Italian Dressing

No more cleaning for now - back to work for me!

pout-ine

Ex marks the spot  ✘

Getting things done. Check  ✔

My previous pre-occupation was to look up at the ceiling.
For hours. Certainly life's answers are up there.
This is the view from the couch.

The medium scrubs are falling off -
The "fat fast" must have done it's magic.
Keckwick diet, anyone?

Really working on this pouting thing...
Almost have it down.....  almost - not quite!
Probably not a good look for me - time to find another!

These small towns still have original features

Didn't go.... not tempted at all, actually
But very nice to look at!

It's good to be able to walk on by
without acting (on every whim)
re-acting (to every trigger)
or over-reacting (which could go either way)

cleaning and errands

tempus fidget

Today is a day of "catching up" for me.
It seems that we do things by the clock or the calendar.
I wasn't ready to change until the psychological barrier of "crossing the date line" brought us into a new month. Whereas before, I might have let things go just a little, now I am ready to tidy up all the things that just need a good cleaning...

. . . . computer files. . . . underneath the cabinets. . . . summer clothes that are now too big. . . . mental files that are now too small. . . . (notes to self). . . . . my truck. . . .

Sometimes "sanity" is all in the details. In fact, the word "sanity" and "sanitary" both come from the same root word. As in clean. And as in "sanitarium!"

From Anglo-French sanité. From Latin sanitat- sanitas health, sanity. From sanus healthy, sane...

So here's to sanity in all of it's forms. Such a cruel mistress!

cleaning out the closet

coming out of the closet

A PBS money show once had a caller who was told that if she had debt, she probably had a weight issue. Ten pounds for each $10k of debt.  And lots of junk in her closets at home.

I wonder if this is universally true.  I wonder if keeping pounds is an equivalent of keeping junk in storage. Do they always go together? Or debt, financial or otherwise. Maybe a debt to the past. Or to ourselves.

I like Atkins because he doesn't go into all the psychology of "how did this happen?" and all that. He mentions it, and it might be worth a mention.

The often quoted book  A Course In Miracles says that "The past is gone. It can touch me not."  Well, the past is gone. Yet it seems to be all around us, every minute of everyday, leaving a trail of evidence around like a bad boyfriend (or girlfriend) would leave dirty shoes and dirty plates all around the living room!  The Course also says "Forgive the past and let it go, for it is gone."

So I finally had the time and the energy to clean out the closet.  I "just did it!"   It took two days, and a couple of trips to Goodwill.  I didn't really focus on the reasons why.  I just got busy.

I gave away everything I hadn't used or knew I would never use.  I gave away all my carbs! I just changed my mind about all the things that once were important. And then cooked for myself a London Broil from Sam's Club. It was the best food I had ever eaten.

Things take time. Cooking, cleaning, planning, organizing, working out. Maintaining it all once you finally get it. Sharing ideas and sorting out all the junk - especially the mental junk.
