life is short

save it for a rainy day

I mentioned before that I was a college music major. Practiced all day. Worked all night. My energy came from a Source I know now had to have been Love.

I was in Sigma Alpha Iota (also Alpha Lambda Delta, but who's counting, eh?)

Honorary societies, not social! Pul-eeze! :D

I started out with a 3.8 but, believe me, it did not end up that way.

The motto for SAI is "Ars Longa, Vita Brevis"

From Hippocrates:
Ars longa, vita brevis, occasio praeceps,
experimentum periculosum, iudicium difficile.

Life is short, the art long, opportunity fleeting,
experiment treacherous, judgment difficult."

It really is hard to know.

The Course in Miracles says that we only ever forgive ourselves.

For choosing wrong. Getting caught up in "the body" or "the body of affairs."

This is Beethoven's Piano Sonata #14 in C Sharp Minor opus 27 no 2.
"The Moonlight Sonata." Every one in Music Education has to play this, don't they?

Berlioz wrote that it "is one of those poems that human language does not know how to qualify."
Beethoven called this work "Quasi una fantasia" ...almost a fantasy.

What does Beethoven and forgiveness have to do with weight loss? Maybe nothing....maybe everything...

  1. Now, I have to say, you've made me think really hard on this one. And, I love it.

  2. Y'know, I could make the same argument for the Flintstone's theme song.

    Just yabba dabba do it.

  3. Hi Anne,

I totally adore the Waldstein, much more than the Moonlight, although that was my late mother's favourite one. She could actually play it! I still get teary-eyed when I hear the Moonlight but the Waldstein shakes me to the core. I also go crazy for certain passages written by Bach. I can just play three or four bars over and over. Gives me the goosebumps.

I'm really impressed that you were a music major. We have something in common. I studied opera for 6 years. Many are called, few are chosen, alas. But it was worth the ride.

  4. The ride is where it's at. Not just the destination.
5 years INVESTED whether or not I even finished school.
    I came *this* close!
I don't think of it as failure or loss because it enriched my life in ways that can't be imagined. Exactly what I needed at the time.

  5. You do realize that you're making it very difficult for me to get anything accomplished around here, don't you? You continue to post wonderful music, and I continue to brew tea and sit and listen and sip. This is NOT the way to get things done. Thanks again for a lovely break in my day.

  6. lol@ vraz60,

music is like ketosis, its one of those rare things that lifts us up to those spirit worlds. only when we transcend the flesh can we feel so free.

lots of nurses are actually artists, right brained and brilliant but with too big a heart to leave the suffering to themselves and go compose or paint. i bet thats you anneh. :)

  7. Forgiveness and weight loss? Linked right at the core, if you ask me.

Lovely to have a music background. How wonderful to carry that with you always.

  8. I've heard this music so many time and ever time I wished I'd learned to play the piano.

This is a post i'll be thinking about for a long while. Thank you.

  9. Yes - we are all hurry up and weight!
Perhaps a little chill time is in order?

  10. Art feeds our souls. I know that I have yearned to create it from a very young age, so much so it made me ache. That I finally shrugged off 'practical' and listened to what I truly needed, was the path I that led to wonders. Art and beauty transcends, guides us, inspires us, validates us and teaches us. For me, words are music.
