work out at work

Held this position for over two minutes....
No strain at all.... need more room, I guess!

SpunkySuzi has a plank challenge going on!

Tried a plank with a cane... more of a challenge
cuz it also involves balance

I do alot of stretching and things that involve balance
Also, lots of "slow burn" things
you can do at a desk... or almost anywhere!

They're fun, and easy enough... but deceptively difficult to do well
or for longer periods of time!

Just 2 minutes of stretching an hour
(on the hour, for me)
Adds up to almost 30 minutes of activity per shift.
That's 30 minutes of extra moving around
that I wouldn't have gotten otherwise!

This has been my habit for nearly 2 years!
It keeps me more awake and alert - gets some
circulation going!  It breaks up the day -
And it's so easy - the hardest part is remembering
to do it!

This little video is from February 2011...
Very slow burn arm stretch...
One minute going up.... one minute coming down.
Try the stretch and let me know how ya like it!
(The stretch - not the video!)

Nice salads for work

Please - I want some more.....
coconut oil, that is!

Got a big order coming soon !
I tend to use more coconut oil in the summer.
Don't know why!

Hope your day is skippity-doo-bop!
What-ever that means!

a little day

Reading Portia de Rossi's book
Unbearable Lightness
A Story of Loss and Gain

Lee sent it to me - thanks!
And I am to send it to someone else
And then maybe to someone else?  We could send books
all around the blog community! Once we are finished
reading them.

This book hit me hard...
"By starving myself into society's beauty ideal,
I had compromised my success, my independence,
and my quality of life. Being overweight was really no different.
It was just the f--- you response to the same pressure."

WOW.
Had a little time for reading this week.

Pink is this year's pink!
Have you heard?

Couple of years ago,
I thought I was looking good!
.......................................
A patient hit me in the head tonight.....
of all the places......
I had to go outside and catch my breath.
I had to wipe away a little tear from my little black eyes.
It hurt so bad, I broke out into a sweat.

Suddenly I value my life.
Go figure!

Uncured Canadian Bacon with fried onions

Then served with a spinach/onion egg scramble

Can you tell what I am doing?
It's hard to see it in this video.
I am dropping a dumbbell and catching it in mid-air.

It's not so easy - try it and let me know!
Acceleration increases weight by many many many times!
Well, just the apparent weight, of course.
....................................................................
So I might just take it easy again for a day or so.....
I am alright, but I'm still not over the first bump in the head!

Hope you are happy and wonderful!

food slave

A tenderloin steak

Sauteed spinach with onions and steak

I ....was.... Spartacus!
But now I'm less and less a slave to food.
And now being in the kitchen is a delight.
Not "slaving" over a hot stove....
I'm learning - more like it's a classroom!
And not a chore at all.

It's all Fun and Games in the kitchen
till somebody gets hurt!

Looking a little like this guy here...
Except that my meals are TOO Spartan!
I'm ready for more.

The other day at work, I had a patient
who knew me 3 years ago.
So she can now see my weight loss.
She once said I was too wide to fit in a shower stall.....
even though it was 3 feet wide!
She's also the one who (then) asked me not to sit
on her antique furniture.... I might break it!

Well, this lady looks me up and down.
Steps back, like she is looking at art in a museum.
Arms folded, one hand up to her chin - the "thinking pose!"

Then she tells me that I could use a little toning in my
upper arms, my butt and my abdomen. But over all, she says I did ok!
"A + !!" .... She asked how to get rid of abdominal fat.
My answer was "If we knew that, we would know everything!"

A lovely sunset from the other day.
Tweaked/ enhanced a bit in iPhoto.
But, like in life, you can't give what you don't have.
The colors were always there -
this just brought them out a little!
And made them more true to life.

Hope your weekend is relaxing!
And your food choices are nurturing!
